Harness too short, cannot connect Tach and install headlight
Bike is a USA z125m (Monkey) built August 2018. In the picture you can see the supplied harness installed exactly where the harness should be, according to the instructions included with the Tachometer. The limited depth of the headlight bucket makes this the only feasible position for the connector. As you can see, one of the three wires in the supplied harness is too short. It is pulled very tight, and pulls the original connector out of place. The wire is too tight to be acceptable, and the LED headlight no longer fits because it rests on the original connector on the right which has been pulled forward by the taut wire.Another mistake in the Takegawa harness is the gauge of wire for the ground is too small. The USA version of the Monkey does not use LED turn signals, it uses incandescent turn signals which require more current than LED. In the picture you can see the heavier gauge turn signal ground wire on the Honda turn signal harness (on the right) and the very light gauge supplied jumper wire that is to be inserted into the circuit. It likely will work, but it is definitely under sized for the USA application.I had high expectations for this product because of the expensive price and the good reputation of Takegawa, I am disappointed that I cannot use this product on my Honda Monkey 125.
[Was there anything that disappointed you? Too bad it doesn't have a clock on it
Do you have any wishes or improvements you would like to make for the Manufacturer? Meter Bracket is better to use Aluminum etc. than steel It would be nice to have a choice of colors for lighting
What made you decide to buy? It comes with its own Bracket and WiringCoupler
How was your experience with it? The lighting is bright and the sensitivity of the needle is good, and I am satisfied with Large I think it's even easier to see if the diameter is a bit larger
Was the installation difficult? It is relatively easy to install without any modifications if you follow the instruction manual I can Do not forget to set the number of cylinders before use!View Detail
SP Takekawa's obsessed with the position of the needles and decided on this one! If you're asking me if I'm accurate .. I think this is a necessary part for MONKEY It is Installation is very simple, as per the Construction ManualView Detail
This product from Special Parts Takegawa would have to be my favorite item I have added to my Honda Monkey 125cc. The installation does take some time to complete if you want to run the wires neatly but it is not a difficult install to do. Once installed I was not completely happy with the look so ended up adding some black tape around the housing to match the OEM cluster which turned out better then I expected. All the features Special Parts Takegawa have added to this tachometer are a must for a motorcycle these days. The clock is used on a daily basis and the temperature reading to monitor my 143cc N-20 BBK.View Detail
If you look at AMAZON or Preview, you'll see that mine stopped moving the needle about 3 months after installation! And that's within about 300k miles! I wouldn't recommend it!View Detail
I bought this because I wanted an Analog Tachometer and I like the look and the clock.:Set, and I am trying to measure the outside temperature. Installation was easy and even I, a beginner, was able to install it easily.View Detail
You can set a lower rpm for break-in (Yellow color lights up at -500 rpm from the set rpm, and Red lights up at the set rpm). It's supposed to have a rev limiter on it so it shouldn't overrev, but I'll miss the Tachometer! (LOL) Installation is a breeze, just put the included harness between them!View Detail
This is a beautiful part, nicely machined, threads are smooth, great anodize color, and it includes the o-ring. This is a perfect fit on a CB1100ex (2017), and perhaps on other machines as well. The thread is a perfect match to the factory plastic fill plug, in both thread size and length of thread.View Detail
