[Fusion of African Twin tradition and advanced technology] The Dakar Rally is called the toughest motor sport in the world. In the late 1980s, when Honda was winning in the two-wheel category, it launched the XRV650, a replica of its works machine, the NXR750, on the market in 1988. Nicknamed the Africa Twin for the first time, this big bike with a strong off-road flavor attracted a great deal of attention, especially in Europe, and established a new category of adventure tourer. The CRF1000L, a new Africa Twin, debuted in 2015. It is equipped with a semi-double cradle frame and a 998cc liquid-cooled, 4-stroke, in-line 2-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine that delivers 92 horsepower (Japanese specifications). The styling is in the tradition of the Africa Twin, with a large fuel tank, dual headlights, and 21 inches front and 18-inch rear tires that emphasize off-road driving. The dual clutch transmission (DCT) model, which does not require clutch operation, was also added to the lineup, making the diversity of maneuverability a topic of discussion. This is complemented by electronic devices to support the rider during off-road riding, such as a G (gravel mode) switch and selectable torque control. Based on the concept of "You can go anywhere you want" these bikes have gained great popularity around the world as motorcycles that allow comfortable long tours in a wide range of situations, from on-road to off-road riding.
